Xbox achievements are one of the staples of the platform that add tons of replay value to games, and now they’re getting a visual update that Microsoft says will make each unlock “feel more personal.” While obtaining these achievements is not everyone’s cup of tea, they can be a fun extra activity for players who are looking to get more out of the games they play. They can also be looked at as bragging rights, since some of them can be challenging to acquire.
Achievements are, of course, not exclusive to Xbox. Steam offers achievements, PlayStation has trophies, and even the Switch platform has achievements for players to grab. Still, after years of looking the same, a new update will finally give Xbox achievements a little boost to make them more enjoyable. This includes new icons shown when an achievement is unlocked. These icons will also be different depending on the type of achievement. “We’ve refreshed achievement notifications with a new look and feel, including updated icons and animations when you unlock classic or rare achievements, Microsoft says.” It’s also going to be possible to hide games from your achievement list for added control over how your profile looks.
The Xbox achievements update also lets you customize the color
The bigger part of the update to this visual change is the customizable color of the achievement unlock that shows up on screen. Going forward, the achievements will now match the color that a gamer choose for their console. Microsoft’s example shows them popping up in red, matching the red color of the UI elements on other screens. This is a small detail, but it’s a pretty neat adjustment that lets players customize things.
This is only available for Xbox Insiders for now, but it’s not tough to become an Xbox Insider. So, if you want to see these changes in your own setup right now, it’s entirely possible. Another neat visual change for the achievements is the capability to highlight games in which you have completed 100% of the achievements. In addition to this, there is a new filter option that makes it easier to spot these games in your list. This should be a really nice change for those with large game libraries.
