Some of the best Android phones come with a chip like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, and that’s what the AYN Odin 3 was thought to be coming with when it was initially announced. However, it’s reportedly not coming with this chip at all. Rather, it’s coming with an entirely different Qualcomm chip. The good news is that the chip it is using is still designed to deliver high performance. In reality, there’s not really much of a difference between the two components.
That being the case, owners of the AYN Odin 3 can rest assured that gaming on the handheld will still be a delightful experience from a performance perspective. At least when it comes to what the chip inside the handheld is capable of.
The AYN Odin 3 reportedly comes with the Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8 chip
As reported by Android Authority, the Dragonwing Q8 is the real Qualcomm chip inside AYN’s Odin 3 handheld. However, there isn’t any fundamental difference in performance between that and the Snapdragon 8 Elite. At least not when it comes to gaming. What sets the Snapdragon 8 Elite apart is that it has the capability to connect to 5G data, as it was a chipset designed for phones, which need to be able to connect to mobile data networks.
The Dragonwing Q8 does not have this ability, but then again it doesn’t need to. The AYN Odin 3 isn’t meant to connect to 5G data. So, using a chip that’s lacking in that capability won’t make a difference that “users will notice,” the company says.
According to AYN, everything else regarding performance is the same. With that in mind, users who find out about the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip not being in this handheld shouldn’t worry about how the device will perform. All of this has led AYN to alter is marketing since initially the Odin 3 was marketed as coming with the Snapdragon 8 Elite. To be sure, the Odin 3 should still allow you to play mobile games at their highest settings.
