The Google Pixel 10a was officially released earlier this year and just like the last model, it’s not as fragile of a phone thanks to its use of components like plastic for the back, and it turns out it’s actually pretty easy to repair if something ever needs to be replaced. That isn’t to say that it would be very easy for the average user, but it wouldn’t be overly difficult. This is in comparison to some devices which have hard to reach components, like batteries that are glued down, making it a nightmare to get them out of the phone. This is exactly the tactic Nintendo used on the Switch 2.
With regard to the Pixel 10a, it was recently disassembled in a teardown video with the express intention of seeing how easy it would be to repair and replace specific components of the device. This includes the screen, battery, charging port, and other pieces that can commonly end up with damage from everyday use. And it seems there’s really good news for Pixel 10a owners.
The Google Pixel 10a gets a very good repair score, and the screen is among the easy replacements
While you might not ever have to disassemble your phone to replace any of its components, it’s nice to know that if you did have to cross that bridge, that it wouldn’t be a completely laborious process. According to the teardown video from PBKreviews, the Pixel 10a gets a repair score of 8.5. What’s more is that the screen replacement, battery replacement, and parts availability all received scores of 2 out of 2. While the overall score is good, not every aspect of the device is as simple to replace.
The USB port, for example, is soldered to the main board. Meaning if you were to try and do this replacement yourself, you’d need soldering equipment to do it. miscellaneous parts replacement got a 1 out of 2 for the score, while the organization and length of time for repairs ended up with a 1.5.
