Many Galaxy smartphone users who love personalization often use custom fonts. If you also use custom fonts on your Samsung smartphone, you might want to stay away from the March 2026 security update. That’s because the latest security patch is reportedly preventing Galaxy smartphone users from using custom fonts.
Samsung’s March 2026 security update breaking custom fonts for Galaxy phone users
The news comes via PiunikaWeb, which spotted a few users’ reports on Reddit complaining about the issue. Apparently, after installing the March 2026 security patch, they lost custom fonts. That’s not all; some users have also reported that switching from one custom font to another makes the previous one unusable.

Apparently, the issue has been affecting Galaxy smartphone users on both One UI 8.5 and One UI 8. Since the issue is affecting many users, the news outlet dug into the March 2026 security update to find the possible cause. As reported, a patched vulnerability, CVE-2026-20989, is behind the custom font issue.
Here’s the description of the vulnerability and fix: “Improper verification of cryptographic signature in Font Settings prior to SMR Mar-2026 Release 1 allows physical attackers to use custom fonts. The patch adds proper verification.”
Samsung hasn’t acknowledged the issue yet
Fortunately, custom fonts downloaded from the Galaxy Store still reportedly work fine post-installing the March 2026 security update. However, it’s still a matter of concern since many custom fonts are not available in the Galaxy Store. At this point, there’s no official word from Samsung on this issue. However, if there’s any update, we will update this article. All that said, the latest Galaxy smartphones, which are often known to support personalization, seem to be struggling in at least one aspect. If the issue hasn’t affected you, make sure not to install the March 2026 security patch just yet.
