Samsung is reportedly working on new Smart Shopping features within its native Samsung Browser (previously Samsung Internet) application. The main function of this feature is that it could recommend coupon deals and even apply them at checkout. This development comes into light as the browser finally exits beta for Windows and the stable version lands.
Samsung Browser from a leaked One UI 9 build includes new Smart Shopping features
As spotted by Android Authority, Samsung Browser v30.0.0.39 from a leaked One UI 9 (based on Android 17) build includes various strings that point to new shopping-related features. The strings suggest that the feature is likely to debut as “Smart Shopping.” Furthermore, the browser app will reportedly notify users when it finds a coupon code.
Additionally, it’ll also reportedly show the validity of the discount code as well as a button to copy it quickly. The strings suggest that coupons are displayed based on your data, like the website you’re visiting, the contents of your basket, your country, the time of your visit to the website, and your IP address.
This will be an opt-in feature for users
It seems that sites may need to opt into the Smart Shopping feature on their end, as there’s a string that mentions “certain retail and commerce websites, which are part of this service.” It means that Samsung won’t be able to extract coupon codes from a random store. Furthermore, the strings also point out that Smart Shopping is not on by default; users will have to opt in. It’s good that Samsung is not forcing this on users and giving them a choice.
Folks at Android Authority were able to enable the settings page for the feature. However, they couldn’t get it to work just yet. The report adds that there is a handy toggle to apply coupons and deals at checkout automatically. Though spotted in the Samsung Browser app from a One UI 9 build, it might make its way to One UI 8.5 or lower.
