Gladstone Institutes has secured more than 105,000 square feet of future laboratory space in a newly constructed building at 1450 Owens St. in San Francisco, part of the Alexandria Center for Science and Technology – Mission Bay Megacampus. Located a block from Gladstone’s headquarters in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood, the new space will be home to approximately 300 scientists across 20 labs, starting in early 2027.
Founded in 1979, Gladstone Institutes launched a fundraising campaign in 2024 to hire hundreds of scientists. Originally, Gladstone planned to expand its 200,000-square-foot headquarters 200 feet away at 1650 Owens St. But as the organization secured city approvals for the expansion, it began exploring a parallel path of leasing space at a lower rate than historically available in Mission Bay, according to the San Francisco Business Times.
Although lease terms were not available, the deal gives Gladstone the option to buy the space.
