Popular messaging app Snapchat is introducing a new AI Clips feature that can transform your photos into a video. This new AI-powered Lens format lets you create a 5-second AI video with just a single photo. AI Clips is a premium feature, as it’s only available to Snapchat Lens+ subscribers. The company says that AI Clips make “AI video instant, personal, and shareable.”

Snapchat also adds that for the first time, developers can build and publish photo-to-video AI directly to Snapchat from the GenAI Suite in Lens Studio. It notes that AI Clips is a feature in Lens Studio that can transform a Snap or Camera Roll photo into a five-second AI video. As said, AI Clips are available to Lens+ users. For some context, Lens+ offers access to various AR and Lens add-ons. The subscription costs $9 per month
Snapchat also notes that it takes only minutes to create a single Lens with only one prompt. Both experienced and new developers can apparently do it with no external tools or complex workflows.

AI Clips aren’t “open-ended, text-to-video tools, or experimental demos.” Instead, Snapchat calls the feature a “closed-prompt AI experience,” which limits users to created Lens. It says that AI Clips are “designed for scale, creativity, and repeat engagement.” The company also goes on to claim that there’s currently nothing else on the market that combines closed-prompt AI video generation with direct photo input, real distribution, and monetization.
Lens creators can also monetize their creations. Through Snapchat’s Lens Plus Payouts program, they (creators) can get revenue-share payouts based on the engagement they receive. What this means is that if a creator’s AI Clips experience clicks among users, it could pay off.
