Jamestown and New York Life are working together on plans for an entertainment destination at the old North Point Mall, anchored by a 20,000-seat hockey arena. Regarding the hockey arena, the developers hope to attract the National Hockey League’s attention. The league hasn’t had a team in the area since the Thrashers relocated in 2011.
The plan calls for a 20,000-seat arena, joined by a 4,000-seat music hall and performing arts center, a 2,000-seat community hockey rink, a 500-seat movie theater, a 45,000-square-foot conference center, and several hotels.
In addition to the entertainment venues, the site would be filled with 907,000 square feet of retail and dining space, 750,000 square feet of office space, 1,385 apartments and more than 16 acres of publicly accessible parks, plazas and multi-use trails.
New York Life took control of the mall in 2021 through a deed-in-lieu of foreclosure. The company recruited Jamestown to head up the mall redevelopment.
