Google is constantly at work improving its core apps. While it may take its sweet time to bring some of the most requested features or fix a simple oversight, they will eventually arrive. One such oversight is Google Messages’ lack of ability to copy a part of the message. After being spotted last month, Google Messages’ selective text copying is now reportedly beginning to roll out to some users in the beta channel.
Google Messages’ selective text copying feature is reportedly rolling out in beta
Folks at Android Authority report that with Google Messages v20260306 beta, they’re able to copy a specific part of a text message. They’re seeing this ability on their OnePlus 13R. It’s possible this could be a staged rollout, as this feature doesn’t seem to be available for everyone, or rather, every phone, even with the same Messages app version.
For some context, Google Messages currently offers the ability to long-press a message. But it only shows a “Copy” option that copies the entire message. While this is useful for short texts, it can be annoying for longer texts. Especially when all you want is a part of it, like OTPs, links, or addresses. This doesn’t leave much of a choice to users. They’ll have to copy the whole message into a different app and then select the relevant part to copy again.

The copy button is still there
This change finally fixes it. Users will be able to long-press a message and then drag to select a specific part of the text to copy it. In case you want to copy the full message, the “Copy” button isn’t going anywhere; it’s still there. While this may not sound like a big feature update, it adds to the convenience factor. It makes simple tasks much easier to do than before. Since it’s still in beta, the official rollout may take some time. We’ll be sure to bring the news when it happens.
