Remember the good old days when Google Photos had free unlimited storage, as long as you were willing to upload your photos in a slightly lower quality? Google then took that away, but thanks to a partnership, T-Mobile gave its subscribers a custom Google One subscription. Unfortunately, it looks like that is going away.
T-Mobile Google One plan is coming to an end
According to a T-Mobile support page, this custom T-Mobile and Google One plan is coming to an end by the end of March 2026. The carrier says, “Starting March 31, 2026, billing and support for Google One will move to Google. To continue accessing and backing up your content, customers must switch to Google billing by this date.”
They also note, “After the transition, the 500GB and 2TB + Unlimited Photos & Videos plans will no longer be available. Customers can choose a standard Google One plan that best fits their needs.” This is a bummer for customers, especially since at $15 a month, the 2TB + Unlimited Photos plan held incredible value.
So, what does this mean for existing customers?
Unless T-Mobile changes their mind, subscribers to this plan will have to make a decision soon. Customers who don’t want to pay for it will see their existing subscription canceled. This means your storage will drop back down to the free tier, which only offers 15GB. If you have more than that currently stored in your Google account, you’ll have to start clearing it out. T-Mobile warns customers who don’t make a decision by this deadline could face interrupted service.
But what if you want to keep your Google One storage? Unfortunately, Google One does not offer a 500GB tier. If you haven’t hit the 500GB cap yet, there is a 200GB “Standard Plan” priced at $3 a month. The next step up is the Premium Plan priced at $10 a month or $100 a year. It offers 2TB of storage along with 10% back on purchases from the Google Store. It is cheaper than the 2TB + Unlimited Photos plan, but in this case you do not get unlimited photo storage. That’s something you need to consider.
Then, Google also offers its AI plans, which come with cloud storage. There’s the AI Pro Plan at $20 a month. This gives users 2TB of storage along with access to Google’s more advanced AI features. There’s also an AI Ultra tier at $250 a month with 30TB of storage, but that’s probably not for your average user.
