Late last year, Honda said it would be introducing support for its older sports cars by expanding parts availability for selected models. The global program initially started in Japan, but Acura has now launched its own Honda Heritage Parts program in the United States. Owners of the first-generation Acura NSX will now be able to purchase either Genuine Honda Reproduction Parts or Honda Compatible Parts for the iconic sports car, making it easier to maintain these cars decades after they were first launched.

To make the new initiative possible, Honda created a new collaborative framework with parts suppliers. Technological advancements, the use of new materials, and updated manufacturing methods have all contributed to the global service.Â
Genuine Honda Reproduction Parts will be reproduced with the same materials and methods as used for the NSX’s original parts. If original parts for the sports car are no longer available for sale, Honda Compatible Parts will be newly redeveloped and reproduced to replace them.
Parts will be available for the first-gen Acura NSX at local dealerships from this summer, so if your NSX needs new rubbers, electronics, powertrain components, or more, these will now be much more accessible.

“In this 40th anniversary year of the Acura brand, the launch of Honda Heritage Parts is especially meaningful, giving Acura enthusiasts the support they need to continue enjoying their first-generation Acura NSX,” said Steven Bailey, vice president of Honda and Acura Parts, Service and Technical Division. “At its core, the new Honda Heritage Parts program honors our shared passion for these iconic vehicles and helps ensure they can be enjoyed by future generations.”
In Japan, the Honda Restoration Service will additionally be available for the original NSX. Owners will be able to have their vehicles properly restored. So far, no announcements have been made about this service reaching other markets.

What About Other Honda and Acura Models?

Honda
For now, the Honda Heritage Parts service is reserved for the first-gen NSX. This is a logical car to start with, given the high values of well-preserved NSXs. The car has a loyal following and design houses like Italdesign have come up with their own tributes to the sports car in recent months, underlining the excitement that still exists for it all these years later.
However, Honda did say that supplying parts for other Acura and Honda models is being evaluated as part of the program. The Japanese brands have an extensive history of highly valued enthusiast models, several of which are over 20 years old and would benefit from the service. These are a few sporty Hondas/Acuras that spring to mind:
- Honda S2000
- Honda Prelude (3rd/4th Generations)
- Acura Integra/RSX
- Honda CR-X Si
All these cars are popular and sought-after today, but they’re increasingly difficult to source parts for given their age. Some also have rare and more complex components, such the third-generation Prelude’s optional four-wheel steering system. This was the first mass-produced car to offer such a system.
What It Means

Honda
The Honda Heritage Parts service will help to keep the NSX fresh and relevant for a new generation. It will preserve the authenticity of the iconic sports car and improve reliability as the NSX ages, thanks to the use of genuine, period-correct parts.
With the launch of the service, Honda joins fellow Japanese brands like Toyota, which has its own GR Heritage Parts Project. That project benefits the classic AE86 Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno, which use the popular 4A-GE engine.Â
As manufacturers inevitably move towards an electrified future and attract new customers, these programs support a passionate group of fans, many of whom have been with the brands for decades.
