The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra camera setup did not exactly shine in DXOMARK’s camera review. Samsung’s new flagship didn’t even manage to squeeze itself into the top 15 on the global camera rankings.
Samsung made minimal camera changes, and it shows
This probably doesn’t come as a surprise to many of you, considering that Samsung made small camera hardware changes compared to last year’s model. Hardware-wise, the cameras are not even close to the top players. There’s only so much that can be done via processing.
In case you’re wondering where the Galaxy S26 Ultra fits on the list, the answer is… 18th place. It shares that spot with the Apple iPhone 16 Pro, Huawei Mate 60 Pro+, OPPO Find X8 Pro, and OPPO Find X7 Ultra.
The Huawei Pura 80 Ultra is still the top dog on DXOMARK’s list, and it’s followed by the Vivo X300 Pro and OPPO Find X8 Ultra. Granted, DXOMARK didn’t review every smartphone camera contender for the top, but still, quite a few phones are included.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra reached a camera score of 157 on DXOMARK, enough for 18th place
The Galaxy S26 Ultra managed to get an overall camera score of 157, while the top-placed Huawei Pura 80 Ultra has a score of 175. You can check out DXOMARK’s full Galaxy S26 Ultra camera review here. We’ll quickly go over Pros and Cons in the rest of the article, though.
As ‘Pros’ for this camera, DXOMARK noted good white balance in most conditions, wide dynamic range, effective video stabilization, and high levels of detail in macro photos.
There were quite a few ‘Cons’ as well, though. DXOMARK mentioned exposure and color instabilities in various conditions. Background noise in indoor and low-light portraits was also mentioned.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra cameras also experience a loss of fine face detail in real-life scenes. Slight frame shifts during small panning shots in video are also a problem. The worst categories for the phone were Portrait, Lowlight, and Zoom.
