Reports about the very first issues with the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold have started popping up online. Two separate reports have surfaced on Reddit, both of which show a major problem with the Galaxy Z TriFold’s inner (foldable) display.
Two separate reports show dead inner displays on the Galaxy Z TriFold
One user, Odd-Drawer6410, reported the issue a couple of days ago, saying that the inner screen on the phone blacked out and that it’s unresponsive. He does show the problem in a video format as well. He says he has been using the phone for about a month and a half before this happened.
He proceeded to say that rebooting fixes the issue, but only temporarily. The next day, the exact same thing happened, but this time around, a reboot didn’t help. The phone’s inner display remains black after reboot, and the boot animation doesn’t appear either.
He also notes that he did not drop or damage the device in any way. The first time the issue appeared, the phone was sitting open on a tablet. Launching the phone into safe mode didn’t help either.
Both users claim that they were very careful and did not damage the phone in any way
Another user, ThoughtIll3676, claims that the inner display on its Galaxy Z TriFold died after only 5 days of use. He also showed the problem in a video format. The display started becoming unrespÄŤonsive and registering touch where there was none. At that point, the user went to bed.
The following morning, the display was pure white with no response. He also notes that he can hear a strange popping sound when the device gets folded or unfolded. There also seems to be an air bubble under the screen.
He also noted that he did not damage the device in any way. In fact, he says that he was very careful, and that the device was folded in “stable temperatures”, and wasn’t even used all that much.
Now, just to be clear, these things can happen to any phone, foldable or non-foldable. It’s not the first time we’ve seen them, and it won’t be the last. These units could be defective, as simple as that. There could be a deeper issue, though, we’re not sure. Let’s hope Samsung will address these issues, and that we won’t see many more such reports.
