Microsoft is rolling out a new update to its Windows 11 operating system, which brings Bluetooth LE technology and enables advanced audio sharing and Auracast features. It allows users to broadcast sound from a single Windows device to compatible wireless accessories. The system is built on the latest LE (Low Energy) technology and carries support for Auracast-based functionality while also improving voice clarity.
Windows 11 gets Bluetooth LE-powered Aurcast features and audio sharing support
Microsoft has begun enabling the audio sharing feature on compatible Windows 11 PCs in the latest update. The update allows users to stream sound from one device to two Bluetooth accessories at the same time. As said earlier, it is powered by the latest Bluetooth LE Audio, a modern standard designed to deliver efficient, high-quality wireless sound. Some selected devices got the support last year, while additional models gained access via updates released in January 2026.
Users can activate the feature through the Windows Dev or Beta Channels and install the latest updates via Windows Update. If your PC is compatible, you will be able to see a “Shared audio (preview)” in Quick Settings. However, to share audio, the connected headphones, earbuds, or hearing aids must support LE Audio to function properly.
Unlike the original Auracast, the support is limited to two connected devices
Microsoft has not explicitly mentioned Auracast support. However, the system seems to be built on the same underlying technology. However, Windows limits broadcasting to two connected accessories at a time. For reference, Auracast typically allows a source device to stream to an unlimited number of receivers.
Apart from the audio sharing, the Bluetooth LE technology brings improved voice performance to Windows systems through Super Wideband technology. The Super Wideband tech operates at a 32 kHz sample rate. The higher sample rate directly converts to better speech clarity during video calls and online gaming sessions.
As of right now, several Surface models powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X chips support Bluetooth LE Audio. These include the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro lines, along with the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge. Microsoft says additional Samsung Galaxy Book5 devices with Intel Core Ultra Series 200 will get the support soon.
