Sony has finally announced the new WF-1000XM6 earbuds, which go on sale today for $329. Sony will sell these in two colors: Platinum Silver, and Black.
So what’s new with the WF-1000XM6? Quite a bit, actually. Sony says that the WF-1000XM6 has achieved 25% reduction in noise compared to its predecessor, the WF-1000XM5. This is thanks to its next-generation HD Noise Canceling Processor, the QN3e Integrated Processor V2. As well as the adaptive noise canceling optimizer, and four microphones on each earbud.
I recently wore these on a flight to Europe, and was quite surprised with how good the noise cancellation was on these. Typically, I only get this level of noise cancellation on over-ear or on-ear headphones and not earbuds. But these are also pretty bulky compared to other earbuds, and that might be why.
Sony is also touting its best call quality on these earbuds, using three cutting-edge technologies. This includes a new bone conduction sensor, which is able to tell when you’re speaking to someone and isolate your voice from the background. It also has two microphones for beamforming and AI noise reduction. Sony has also improved Bluetooth connectivity, with an antenna that is 1.5 times larger than the previous generation. Performance has also been greatly improved here.
Despite these still being pretty bulky, they are actually pretty comfortable to wear thanks to the new ergonomic design that Sony is touting here. This design not only makes it more comfortable to wear for many hours on end, but it also helps with active noise cancellation. And of course, it does also have Google Fast Pair and works with hands-free Gemini.
Over 8 hours of continuous playback
Battery life is also quite good here, with Sony touting 8 hours of battery life on a single charge, 24 hours with the charging case. And I can attest to that battery life number. I wore these on a 7.5-hour flight from Detroit to London-Heathrow, and they lasted the entire flight, without any low battery warnings either.
Finally, Sony also use 25% recycled plastic on the WF-1000XM6, helping the company to “reduce reliance on bio-based plastic”.
Sony WH-1000XM6 debut in new Sand Pink color
On top of today’s announcement about the WF-1000XM6, Sony is also debuting the WH-1000XM6 that was announced last year in a new color. This is the new Sand Pink color, which is a bit more muted than the previous pink color that Sony had used for the WH-1000XM5.
The new color is available today for the same price as the regular WH-1000XM6, at $459.
