Samsung Foundry is seeing a bounce back of sorts with its 2nm GAA process. In fact, recent reports claim it achieved a 50% yield rate. Like always, there’s room for improvement to better rival TSMC, which itself is facing production problems. Tuning in that line, a new report says that Samsung is aiming for a 130% growth in 2nm GAA orders. It is targeting clients beyond Tesla, which already signed a deal worth $16.5 billion for this technology.
Samsung aims for massive growth in 2nm GAA orders for 2026
DigiTimes reports that Samsung is moving aggressively to secure more orders for its next-generation lithography. It adds that Samsung is shifting its focus to AI chips now that the Exynos 2600 demonstrates stabilized yields. This suggests that the company wants to prioritize high-performance silicon for the growing AI market. South Korean analysts predict that Samsung’s precise 130% increase in 2nm orders indicates its confidence in securing customers.
Another advantage it has is the Taylor plant in Texas, USA. This was originally designed for 4nm production. But it appears that Samsung likely wants to eat away at TSMC’s market share while appeasing the Trump administration by bringing its latest technology to the US.
Samsung is reportedly seen as a viable alternative to TSMC
Samsung is reportedly focusing on the 2nm GAA production at the Texas facility. It will apparently start test operations of EUV equipment in March this year.
As for securing orders, though the report mentions “major customers,” there’s no explicit mention of Qualcomm. A recent report said that Samsung’s prospects of winning Qualcomm’s 2nm orders are increasing. That said, rumors claim that Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Gen 6 Pro will exclusively use TSMC’s 2nm N2P node this year, hinting that both companies are yet to come to terms.
Besides Qualcomm, many other clients are reportedly leaning toward Samsung as a viable alternative to TSMC. Only time will tell whether Samsung’s foundry division secures enough orders and turns profitable.
