When you think of vivo, what comes to mind? If you said smartphones, you’d be right. However, vivo is looking to expand its portfolio beyond phones, with the latest rumors claiming that the company could be working on a vlogging camera.
Is Vivo working on a vlogging camera?
This rumor comes from Jiemian News, which claims that vivo is developing its own vlogging camera. Apparently, vivo has its sights set on DJI and its Osmo Pocket series of pocket cameras. This is actually not the first time we’ve heard this rumor. Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station had previously hinted that a major manufacturer was planning an action camera for the first half of 2026.
It was later hinted in the comments that it could come from the OVMH group, in which vivo is part of. The report also reveals that the company has assembled a dedicated team of nearly 100 people to develop the camera. It will focus on stabilization and imaging technologies. There is no word on pricing yet. However, if vivo wants to take on the likes of DJI, Insta360, or GoPro, that should give us a rough estimate regarding how much it could cost.
Overall, it sounds interesting, and we can’t wait to see what vivo has in store.
The rise in popularity of pocket-style cameras
Our smartphones are already capable of taking great-quality photos and videos. Sometimes even better than some dedicated camera systems. In spite of that, there is an increase in the popularity of these types of pocket-style cameras.
For starters, using your phone to shoot video, especially high-quality video, is a drain on the battery. Considering that we have to use our phones for other things besides photography, it’s probably not a great idea that your phone runs out of juice in the middle of the day. A dedicated camera helps prevent that.
Secondly, cameras like the DJI Osmo Pocket are unique in the sense that they have an integrated gimbal. This allows users to record videos that are stabilized, reducing the need for software correction during post-production. Lastly, there’s no denying that these cameras are way more ergonomic compared to our phones.
