The Steam Machine is one of three new hardware products coming from Valve that were initially planned for a release in the first quarter of the year, but Valve has now confirmed that the Steam Machine has been delayed. With a Q1 2026 launch, that meant the Steam Machine would have begun shipping before the end of March. Now, it’ll be sometime before the end of the second quarter, which tacks on a few more months.
It’s an unfortunate happenstance, but not one that was all too surprising. The truly unfortunate part is that the Steam Machine is also now going to cost more money. Valve never confirmed a price for the Steam Machine following its unveiling back in November. So, technically, consumers will never know how much more they’re paying. And that may end up working in Valve’s favor if its original pricing plan was reasonable.
The Steam Machine has been delayed until sometime in Q2 2026
There’s no exact shipping date yet, but Valve has said that it aims to ship the Steam Machine in the first half of 2026. That means that shipping will now potentially happen sometime between the beginning of Q2 and the end of Q2, which begins in April and ends in March. Valve confirms that it also plans to have the new Steam Controller and the Steam Frame out within the same window.
As for price, ignorance might be bliss here. Valve never shared pricing for the Steam Machine, so there will probably never be a confirmation on how much the price ended up jumping. However, the price increase could very well price out some consumers. As the Steam Machine was already expected to be costly. Valve attributes these changes to the rising RAM and storage costs. That’s not too surprising either. The RAM shortage has impacted many different products, including GPUs, other computers like desktops and laptops, and likely many smartphones this year.
There is a silver lining, though. Valve will be sharing the CAD, specs, and details for the faceplates in the coming months. That means it plans to let companies and users make their own faceplates.
