The thing about social media like TikTok or Instagram is that most of the time, you’re just scrolling away endlessly in a daze. Sure, you chuckle every now and then or gasp in shock, but it’s otherwise a braindead kind of activity. If you’re hoping to get more out of social media, then you might want to check out Gizmo, a TikTok-like platform for vibe-coded mini apps.
Gizmo: TikTok meets vibe-coded mini apps
For those unfamiliar with vibe coding, it basically refers to the concept of using AI to write code for you. Now, we know that coding is not easy. It’s complicated; there’s a lot of syntax and jargon you have to deal with, but that’s where AI comes in. Thanks to AI models like Anthropic’s Claude, all you need to do is describe the app you’re trying to build, your goals, intentions, and design, and the AI does most of the work for you.
This has opened the door to plenty of specialty and niche apps. Users who did not know a lick of programming could now create apps designed specifically for their needs, and Gizmo is basically a place for users to show off their mini apps.
Gizmo is a new platform from startup Atma Sciences. It allows anyone to vibe code apps within Gizmo itself using text, photos, sound, and so on. Then, users can publish their apps to the platform, where other users can scroll through and interact with them. It’s like TikTok, if TikTok were interactive. You will be able to encounter all sorts of mini apps. There are games, interactive puzzles, animation, and more. Basically, as long as you can dream it, Gizmo can sort of create it.
What about safety?
Now, the problem with vibe coding is that the code isn’t always the most efficient. It’s functional, but sometimes it can be inefficient, or worst case, it could contain security loopholes that attackers will exploit. However, there’s no denying that it’s a good place to start.
So, what about Gizmo? According to the app’s FAQ, each app is vetted using both AI and human moderators. This is done to ensure user safety. Also, the company says that it designed Gizmo as a creative safe space for users aged 13 and above. There are multiple layers of protection and a reporting system that lets users report inappropriate content.
If you’re interested, the app is currently only available on iOS. However, an Android version is also in the works.
