There are plenty of rumors and leaks pointing towards Samsung releasing a wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 this year, and now we’re learning that the device could be launching globally this Summer.
This news is based on a GSMA database finding by SmartPrix. So take this with a grain of salt, as not everything that enters the GSMA database actually ends up being a real product.
But there are model numbers for a Global Model, South Korea, US carrier locked, US factory unlocked, Canada, and China. So this doesn’t mean that it’s going to be truly global, but in many more countries than even the Galaxy Z TriFold is available in.
- SM-F971B – Global
- SM-F971N – South Korea
- SM-F971U – US carrier locked
- SM-F971U1 – US factory unlocked
- SM-F971W – Canada
- SM-F9710 – China
It is reportedly following the internal code name of H8, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is using the codename Q8, which does follow previous Galaxy Z Fold models.
Currently, there’s not a ton of info about the specs of this wider Galaxy Z Fold, or even what the name will actually be. But we do know that the outer display is going to be wider, like the original Google Pixel Fold or the OPPO Find N2. This means that when you unfold it, you’ll have a landscape-style display, without having to rotate it. One of the main reasons why I loved the Google Pixel Fold so much.
Why is Samsung in a rush to release this device?
Samsung is looking to release this device in July-August in order to beat the iPhone Fold. Which is rumored to be using a wider front display compared to other foldables on the market. Of course, an iPhone Fold is going to command a lot of attention, which is why Samsung wants to beat it to market, and so it can be compared to what Apple is releasing.
There’s no word on pricing yet, but we wouldn’t expect it to be cheaper than $2,000, as that is the Galaxy Z Fold 7 price.
