Samsung will put more focus on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 this year, compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Why? Well, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 was a huge success for the company, and it even managed to outsell the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
The company’s clamshell foldables have always been more popular, but not anymore. The Galaxy Z Fold 7’s very thin form factor has seemingly managed to attract people. Samsung finally started catching up to the competition from China in that regard.
We are at least assuming that the phone’s slimmer design had a significant role in its sales. The company did a good job overall, but that was the most obvious change compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Well, that and its weight.
Samsung will prioritize the Galaxy Z Fold 8 over the Galaxy Z Flip 8 in 2026
In any case, Samsung expects this trend to continue in 2026. According to a report from Korea, Samsung is planning to produce more units of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs Galaxy Z Flip 8 in 2026. If that ends up being true, it will be the first time ever that the ‘Fold’ model is being produced in more units than the ‘Flip’ model. Well, at least when it comes to the initial production plan.
Samsung allegedly plans to produce around 3.5 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, initially. The Galaxy Z Flip 8, on the other hand, will be produced in 2.5-3 million copies. This also suggests that the company expects its foldables to sell better than in 2025.
As a reminder, the combined Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 shipments last year were around 6 million units. It is worth noting that the Galaxy Z TriFold is also a part of the picture now. Considering its extremely high price tag and limited availability, it won’t manage to take a significant chunk of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 sales.
A wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 is also rumored, as a second option
There is also a fourth foldable from Samsung that we should keep in mind, the rumored wider Galaxy Z Fold 8. Samsung will allegedly announce such a product to compete directly with the first foldable iPhone.
That information hasn’t been confirmed yet, of course. However, if it ends up happening, chances are it will be very similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in terms of price and specs.
