Increased RAM prices have had a heavy impact on all sorts of consumer electronics across the industry, and it would seem that not even Apple is immune to the aftereffects. This was bound to happen, as you’ll find RAM in all sorts of products, so naturally, with the rising cost of RAM, it would stand to reason that other products that contain RAM would eventually increase in price as well. This has led to a number of situations, including some willing to steal from Costco to avoid paying the higher price.
Graphics cards have been one of the hardest hit products since prices started to rise, but make no mistake, smartphones and tablets are in for it as well. If prices don’t jump too high in the immediate future, they’re likely to do so the later into the year it gets. In fact, Apple CEO Tim Cook believes this might be the case.
Apple CEO Tim Cook says increased RAM prices could impact things more soon
While Cook doesn’t mention any specifics, he does allude to the fact that an increase in the price of its products could be on the horizon. During an investor call this week, Cook said that there has been a minimal impact on the company’s gross margin in the last quarter of 2025. However, he also follows that up by saying that he expects there to be more of an impact in the current quarter.
This will likely translate into prices going up for Apple devices, and iPhones would no doubt be among those devices. Cook seems to have a plan in place to deal with the situation, though. At least the beginnings of one. During the same investor call, he reportedly stated that the company is looking into a variety of options for dealing with the impact if the need arises.
Apple devices can already be quite expensive, so any increase in the cost of the baseline price for consumers is sure to have an impact on who can or will spend that money.
