Apple and many tech giants are no strangers when it comes to allegations of antitrust violations. Over the years, the company has faced numerous lawsuits and allegations, but how much have they been fined? Turns out, we’re talking a number close to a billion. According to Proton’s Tech Fines Tracker, Apple was hit with antitrust fines in 2025 to the tune of $851 million.
How much in antitrust fines did Apple pay in 2025?
According to a new report from Proton, Apple antitrust fines in 2025 totaled a staggering $851 million across various privacy and competition violations. Most of that money went to European regulators who took issue with how Apple runs its App Store and implements its privacy features.Â
France hit Apple with a €150 million fine back in March, while Italy followed up in December with another €98.6 million penalty. What’s interesting is that both countries targeted the same thing: Apple’s App Tracking Transparency feature.
Apple launched the privacy tool back in 2021. It was designed to give users more control over their data. It also requires apps to ask permission before tracking activity across other apps and websites. Sounds good for users, right? But regulators saw it differently. They argued Apple’s implementation gave the company an unfair advantage while making life harder for third-party developers.
Apple’s not alone
As it turns out, Apple isn’t alone in facing these fines. The company has been battling various European investigations for years, from music streaming services to third-party app store requirements. The European Commission has been particularly aggressive about enforcing its Digital Markets Act, with Apple antitrust fines in 2025 representing just one piece of a much larger regulatory push.
Proton’s report also looked at all the major tech companies and found that Apple, Google, Meta, and Amazon combined for $7.8 billion in fines throughout 2025. But you know what’s shocking? Based on their free cash flow, these tech giants could pay off the entire amount in just 28 days. The question now is whether these fines actually change anything. For a company that can generate enough cash to cover $851 million in a matter of weeks, the penalties might simply be chalked up to the cost of doing business.
