Multiple reports have been suggesting lately that Apple is going to improve the imaging capabilities of this year’s iPhones. The brand could offer a variable aperture camera system on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. This camera tech would be first for the iPhone. A tipster has now corroborated the earlier reports, apart from adding that the iPhone 18 Pro variants could get a DSLR-like teleconverter. Analysts expect this tech to enhance the zooming capability of the next-gen iPhone models.
iPhone 18 Pro is reportedly getting a teleconverter to offer better zoom
A gadget tipster on Weibo, who goes by the name “Smart Pikachu”, backs up the earlier variable aperture camera feature leaks for the iPhone 18 Pro series. The leaker says the brand has prototyped a series of variable aperture lenses. Additionally, the source claims that Apple is also considering a teleconverter for the new iPhones, which is at the “under evaluation” stage.
In regular DSLR cameras, teleconverters are optical attachments that increase the effective focal length, allowing photographers to get closer to their subjects without moving. On the iPhone 18 Pro, this would likely function as an internal magnifying element. If implemented, it would significantly increase the camera’s optical reach, though potentially at the cost of light intake.
The rumour doesn’t appear to be very trustworthy at the moment
There’s no certainty that the new iPhone Pro models will get teleconverters in the camera module. Since these have only reached the “evaluation stage”, there’s a little chance the teleconverter will appear in the iPhone 18 Pro. It’s also worth mentioning that this tipster has a good track record when it comes to Android phone leaks. However, in the world of Apple devices, the leaker is a relative newcomer.
