In the past, if you wanted to have Google yield more accurate and relevant results in your search, you’d have to understand how to phrase your queries. Of course, over time, Google has improved on its ability to understand search intent. Now, Google has announced that it is giving search an AI boost with a couple of changes.
Google Search gets a boost with AI
These days, Google comes with AI Overviews and AI Mode that allow users to get the information they want more quickly. However, this doesn’t mean Google is resting on its laurels. The company has announced that Google Search will be getting a boost thanks to the use of AI.
This includes making the transition from a search query to a conversation more seamless. This means that after you search, and you still need more information, you can. According to Google, “Now, you can easily ask a follow-up question right from an AI Overview and jump into a conversational back and forth with AI Mode. In our testing, we’ve found that people prefer an experience that flows naturally into a conversation—and that asking follow-up questions while keeping the context from AI Overviews makes search more helpful.”
Yes, we know that you could previously transition to AI Mode if you needed more details or had follow-up questions. However, the point of this update is to reduce the number of steps to create a more fluid experience, as Google says.
AI Overviews is getting upgraded too
In addition to search, AI Overviews is also getting an upgrade. Google says that AI Overviews will use its Gemini 3 model by default. This is Google’s latest and most powerful model, which means that AI Overviews should be more accurate and provide users with more detailed answers than before.
Both the upgrade to search and AI Overviews are actually pretty cool, not to mention useful. More users are turning to AI for search these days. Google could have stubbornly resisted this, especially since search is one of its core products. However, by taking advantage of the shift in user behavior, Google has made its search more valuable than ever.
Google says that the changes are rolling out as we speak and are available to mobile and desktop users globally.
