Spotify is reportedly testing a larger way to show music video content. This change fixes the earlier-reported usability problem and makes everyday use of the platform feel smoother. The feature is still in the beta testing phase, but the development reflects the streaming giant’s effort to refine its platform. The company aims to make its apps‘ watching experience feel more practical for everyday mobile listening.
Spotify tests a larger music video view
Premium users in several regions already have the option to switch from audio to video directly from the Now Playing screen. While switching from audio to video feels smooth, there’s a major issue in the process. The problem appears specifically when the user moves elsewhere in the app. As soon as browsing begins, the video collapses into a thin bar at the bottom. This happens while the playback continues and the image becomes so small that it is easy to ignore or miss entirely.
The whole thing weakens the value of music video playback. The experience also feels interrupted, especially for users who listen to a lot of video songs. However, a recent APK teardown by Android Authority suggests that Spotify is working on a possible fix. The string code found inside the app reveals a new option described as “Larger video in Now Playing Bar.” It comes with a note explaining that the feature would show bigger videos while browsing.
It’s a small but noticeable change that’s going to improve the user experience
As of right now, the feature cannot be turned on. However, the wording suggests that it’s being tested internally. If implemented well, the users could finally get a more visible mini player, allowing them to continue watching while also exploring playlists, albums, and artists. The fix could help the platform’s video playback experience feel more natural and simplified to the user.
Moreover, this is not the first time that any platform has faced such issues. YouTube once had a very small mini player that made watching difficult while navigating. Over time, it introduced a larger and more flexible design. Spotify also seems to be working on it.
