SKS Partners and the University of California, Berkeley said Tuesday that their joint venture is expanding its plan for an R&D project at NASA Research Park. Reflecting new demand from the aviation sector, the project will be renamed Berkeley Air & Space Center and will be enlarged from its original 1.4 million square feet to 2.3 million square feet.
“With best-in-class facilities, including robust lifestyle and commercial amenities, Berkeley Air & Space Center will attract leaders across the private sector and academia,” the JV says on its website. “Global innovators will draw from the disciplines of aeronautics, aerospace, quantum computing, biology, social sciences and deep tech.”
SKS chief development officer Tim Smith told the San Francisco Business Times that while the space sector remains a relevant focus, the JV is seeing the most immediate interest from aviation tenants. The JV and CBRE plan to launch formal leasing efforts shortly.
