Once again, we garden fairies must step in to save this blog from becoming stale and stagnant, boring and bothersome.
And we will do just that by providing an update of sorts and perhaps answering a few questions that have been asked by discerning, curious readers along the way.
But first, Seedy and Soddy thought we should share a picture of the moth orchid that Carol has the nerve to think she got to rebloom, taking all the glory away from us garden fairies.
Harumph!
We are garden fairies, and as usual, we will rightfully take all the credit for these blooms. Even Granny ‘Gus’ McGarden, who is hard to impress, thinks these are quite pretty and special. Honoria and Hortense could not agree more.
And now some questions which we will answer.
The three main questions we have are: what happens to that rabbit who shows up on New Year’s Eve, how much does he do to help in the garden, and why don’t we hear more about him throughout the year?
We are garden fairies. We will now endeavor to provide answers that are both truthful and accurate, as best we can.
So what happens to said rabbit? Well, that all depends. Some years, most years in fact, we forget about him until he shows up again on the next New Year’s Eve with his bags packed, ready to go.
Sure, we are delighted to see that New Year’s rabbit when he first arrives, so full of energy and ideas, but then, we are garden fairies. Sometimes we want him to just simmer down a bit. We are planting the long game here! And that takes both time and patience. Time. And Patience!
But this year, rumor has it that in cahoots with Carol, said New Year’s rabbit has retained the services of a Landscaper, who is coming here before Easter to really spruce up the back garden. We are talking about straightening up the beds in the Vegetable Garden Cathedral. We are talking about adding proper mulch in the paths.
We are talking about edging all the other flower borders, including Plopper’s Field, August Dreams Garden, and Bird’s Blanket.
Oh, how we have pined for Carol to do something like this, so if that rabbit, Twenty-Six, wants to take some credit for it, we are garden fairies, we will share the credit.
Yes, we wrote “share the credit!” Precious little gets done around here that we aren’t involved in.
Now, where were we in answering those questions?
Well, it doesn’t matter where we were because we are done answering them, meaning that we have other things to do, like sort seeds and get Carol to commence and begin winter-sowing some of those seeds. Those seeds won’t sow themselves, and we are garden fairies! We don’t really do much with seeds until Carol has freed, released, and removed them from the packages.
But first, we must wait for some of the snow on the back patio to melt. We are garden fairies. We have not seen such snow in quite some time. It’s pretty to look at from the house, but outside, it is so cold. That’s why we have all taken up residence in the sunroom with the house plants.
But do not tell Carol. She honestly thinks we are still outside, in the cold and snow, protecting snowdrops and making plans for the big crocus lawn bloom-athon. As if! We are garden fairies. We will go back outside in plenty of time to take care of all the late winter flowers. You have our garden fairies’ word on that. Which is a solid, dependable word most of the time.
Well, that is our update, and here’s a picture of said snow, which you might have seen already if you subscribe to Carol’s weekly Substack newsletter.

We are garden fairies. We have subscribed to her newsletter and hope someday to make an appearance in it, but until invited, cajoled, or coerced into doing so, we will be right here, doing more than our share of the work to keep this blog from going dormant.
