Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Leading up to this passage, Jesus warned his disciples that the people of this world would treat them just like they treated Him. But they were not to fear the people of this world. Instead, they were to boldly proclaim to the world the message that Jesus would give them.
In like manner, believers who live today should not be surprised if people are uncomfortable with us and our message, or even hostile toward us. Don’t be afraid of the reactions of the people of this world. Be faithful to the one who holds your life in His hand. Be faithful to proclaim the good news to a world that is living in darkness.
There is nothing that happens in this world that God does not know about. Whether it is the death of the smallest bird or the number of hairs on your head, God knows about it. And more, He cares about it. So, if God cares about the smallest bird, how much more does He care about me? I am of great value to Him. Not because I am anything. But because He created me, and because Christ died for me. And, knowing that He cares for me, I can be faithful to Him without fear of this world.
Are you a child of God? Don’t be afraid. You are of great value to Him.
