An $800 million data center in Temple is a little more than halfway through the construction process. Meta Platforms started work on the 900,000-square-foot project three years ago, and it’s expected to be near the end of 2026. It’s on 384 acres at 3101 Industrial Blvd., about 75 miles north of Austin. JE Dunn Construction is the general contractor, while HED was listed as the design firm.
Once done, the site will have about 100 operational positions. 1,200 construction workers will participate in the development.
The Austin Business Journal has identified more than a dozen data centers in various stages of completion in cities ranging from Hutto and Georgetown to Taylor and Uhland and in counties that include Caldwell, Bastrop and Williamson.
The availability of electricity and water, workforce development, land availability and the huge cost of building these centers are issues that will keep the attention of developers and city officials in the years ahead.
