
By the early 2000s, station wagons were essentially a thing of the past on American highways. It’s not that they completely disappeared from the scene, but the list of American automakers producing them was getting shorter year by year, and we weren’t importing that many models, either. The minivan had usurped the wagon as the go-to family vehicle in the 1990s, while the 2000s would become the decade of the SUV.
