Kei cars have always drawn a bit of fascination from the likes of JDM enthusiasts throughout the West. There’s a certain charm to them that can’t be denied, probably due to the fact that they’re so tiny, yet can still get you from point A to point B with a quaint and quirky sense of style. After all, you’d be hard-pressed not to attract some head-turns when out and about in something as small as a kei car in a city like Chicago. The closest the US market probably ever got to a kei car sold in any type of volume was the Smart Fortwo micro car sold by Mercedes-Benz here until the 2017 model year in gas format and until MY2019 as the electric Fortwo Electric Drive.
