Google listened, well, sort of. Aparently Google is bringing back separate WiFi and Data toggles in Android 17. This is fixing an annoyance that users have had for years. And now, it’s finally being reversed.
But it’s not all good news, as Google is also incorporating a feature that has become pretty popular with the Chinese brands, which is essentially copying iOS. Basically, the Quick Settings and Notifications are going to be split up. This is what Xiaomi, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Vivo, and others already do. However, most do offer an option to keep them together (Xiaomi doesn’t).
It sounds like this will be an option on Android phones running Android 17, foldables, and tablets with the larger screens will be stuck using the Separate option. Where Quick Settings are Separate from Notifications. While this is still in beta, and Android 17 hasn’t even launched yet as a developer preview, there’s still time for this to change.
Separate WiFi and Data toggles finally!
The separate Quick Settings and Notifications is something we’ve been hearing about for a while, in fact it was first noticed back in 2024. But bringing back separate toggles for WiFi and Data is a huge deal.
Currently, they are combined into a single toggle, which adds extra steps for disabling either one. Now, in Android 17, you should be able to just tap to turn either WiFi or Data off or on. Which is going to make life a whole lot easier.
Android 17’s developer preview should be launching very soon. In fact, Google is already behind schedule compared to Android 16. Where the first developer preview was launched in November, and the first public beta was launched in January. Perhaps Google is looking to ditch the developer preview this year and jump straight into the public beta.
