Nestled in the heart of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, Massanutten Resort offers more than just breathtaking views—it offers connection, community, and four-season family adventure. On a recent episode of The Ski Moms Podcast, we caught up with Kameron Tucker, Mountain Sports Director at Massanutten, who shared her unique journey from ski student to mountain leader, and offered an insider’s look at what makes this resort a standout destination for families.

About the interview
Kameron’s story is a full-circle moment. She learned to ski at Massanutten as a child, receiving lift tickets in her Christmas stocking. Now, with over a decade of experience across the resort’s adventure park, ski patrol, and ski school operations, she’s in her third season leading mountain sports. “I learned to ski right here at Massanutten, and now my daughter is learning on the same slopes,” she shared. “It’s so cool to watch that come full circle.”
More than a Mountain
Massanutten shines as a beginner-friendly mountain with a warm, welcoming spirit. The resort’s mission is clear: introduce families to the joys of skiing and snowboarding in a supportive, accessible environment. It’s a favorite for locals and travelers alike, drawing visitors from Richmond, Fredericksburg, and even Florida. Passholders often make the most of their week-long visits, skiing daily from mid-December through early March. Thanks to a robust snowmaking system, conditions stay consistently strong all season long.
Beyond the slopes, Massanutten delivers a full-service vacation experience. The sprawling 6,000-acre resort includes everything from an indoor/outdoor water park and two recreation centers to 36+ miles of hiking trails, zip lines, escape rooms, and a full-service spa. Dining options are equally varied, from a cozy ramen bar and cafeteria-style spots to the Mid Mountain Grill, complete with fire pits and DJ sets. Don’t miss the Umbrella Bar—a heated yurt with 360-degree glass walls offering sweeping mountain views.

For families new to skiing, Kameron offers practical tips to make the most of your visit: book early, know your child’s height and weight for gear fitting, and understand skier types to ensure safe binding settings. Perhaps most importantly, create a family plan for the mountain. “Have a meeting spot. Have a communication plan. It makes all the difference,” she advises.
Massanutten isn’t just a resort—it’s a place where ski stories begin. Whether you’re introducing your little ones to their first snowflakes or returning to a favorite run, this mountain invites you to make lasting memories together.
