The Boston Planning and Development Authority board gave its approval to City Realty’s proposed lab building development at 17 Bradston St. in the city’s Newmarket neighborhood, reported the Boston Business Journal. The eight-story, 280,000-square-foot building would feature labs and offices on its upper floors and high-bay industrial space on the ground floor.
The BPDA has received fewer applications for lab projects in recent years, reported the Business Journal. Lab buildings have been opening empty across the region since demand for the space plummeted a couple of years ago.
The development team told BPDA board members that the property will be buoyed by nearby Boston Medical Center, the Business Journal reported. City Realty formally proposed the project in 2021.
“It may not be your traditional lab tenant, but there are great opportunities for medical support, research,” said Josh Fetterman, director of real estate development and construction at City Realty.
