Mangmi’s Pocket Max is shaping up to be a budget Android beast

In the world of Android handheld gaming devices, there is no shortage of options, and now there will be one more with the upcoming Pocket Max from Mangmi. This handheld looks to pair some premium specs with what is likely to be an affordable price point. It’s worth noting that, as of yet, Mangmi has not confirmed what the price of this handheld will be.

However, as an Android handheld with only 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, presumably for the base model, a starting price might not be higher than a few hundred. Android Authority expects that the cost could hit close to $200, maybe more. That seems entirely reasonable, though. The Mangmi Pocket Max comes with a 7-inch OLED panel, and that panel type alone probably raises the cost a bit.

It’s also powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, which utilizes the Adreno 650 GPU for graphics processing. Neither of these sits at the top of the heap in terms of performance. However, performance is decent. As an older chipset, it allows for a wider library of compatible games.

The Mangmi Pocket Max handheld will come in three different colors

There are still quite a few details about the Pocket Max that Mangmi hasn’t shared, but the company seems content to slowly feed the information to consumers. For instance, it recently shared that the handheld will be available in three different colors. This includes Black, White, and the Retro GB color that takes inspiration from retro handhelds.

Mangmi has shown off the colors in a December 19 post on X, asking its fans what color they prefer out of the three. The company also mentioned the handheld will come with a 144Hz refresh rate display, and that bodes well for Android gamers. Even if most Android games won’t support a refresh rate that high. Additionally, Mangmi says the display supports HDR, so that should make certain games more vibrant. Mangmi appears to be teasing new bits of information every few days. So, it’s possible that a full reveal is just around the corner.
