Station wagons still make up a very small portion of the American auto market, but the few we have left, like the Subaru Outback, Audi A4 and A6 Allroad, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain, are from Asian and European automakers. We haven’t actually seen an American-made station wagon since the 2020 model year, when the Buick Regal TourX was retired. The Buick Regal has been around since the 1970s, and the station wagon body type has been a part of the brand, off and on, since the second generation, so the departure of the TourX when the Regal left the American market, it’s a moment that might have passed with a whimper, but it feels like a major landmark on the American automotive timeline.
