Remember the old adage, there’s no such thing as a free lunch? Well, Google just proved us right. A little over a week ago, Google launched Gemini 3, the latest version of its AI model. Free users could access the model albeit with limits, but unfortunately, Google is making some changes to Gemini 3 that reduces those limits.
Gemini 3 for free users will see new limits
According to a recent update, Google is changing the limits free users have to its Gemini 3 model. Prior to this, Google said that free users could use up to 5 prompts a day with Gemini 3. They could also use Nano Banana Pro with up to 3 image prompts a day. However, that has changed.
Google does not state what the new limits are, except to say that these daily limits “may change frequently” when users use the “Thinking with 3 Pro” feature. The company has also decreased the limits to Nano Banana Pro to just 2 images a day. However, Google says that this could also change.
This is apparently due to a surge in demand. As you may know, even simple prompts like saying “please” and “thank you” to AI models can consume a fair amount of resources. Now that these newer models are more capable and advanced, it’s not surprising that Google could be running low on resources and are now focusing on users that actually pay for its AI Pro plans.
The good news is that those who are on the paid plans won’t see any changes. If you’re subscribed to Google AI Pro, you still get up to 100 prompts a day for Gemini 3. You also can generate up to 100 images a day with Nano Banana Pro. Those on the Google AI Ultra plan get up to 500 prompts a day and up to 1,000 images with Nano Banana Pro.
What the future holds
At the moment, it is unclear if Google has plans to restore the previous limits. Maybe in the future once Google either gets more servers or if the server load decreases, but that’s hard to say. Plus, let’s not forget that the holiday season is around the corner.
Companies like OpenAI and Perplexity have launched new AI shopping tools. We wouldn’t be surprised if Gemini users are also trying to get shopping ideas in a similar vein. Maybe once the holiday season passes, Google could restore the previous limits. But for now, if you’re an ardent Gemini user, then maybe it’s time to consider paying for the AI Pro or AI Ultra plan if you need a higher threshold.
