The Motorola Edge 70 Ultra is coming, and it will pack a rather powerful processor. No, it will not be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, though. The Motorola Edge 70 Ultra will ship with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will fuel the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra & OnePlus 15R
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 was announced quite recently, as a powerful chip that sits below the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. That chip will fuel the upcoming OnePlus 15R, and it seems like Motorola’s flagship will end up utilizing it as well.
The information comes from Evan Blass aka evleaks, who claims that Qualcomm itself confirmed the information. He added that the phone will be codenamed ‘Urus’.
Motorola did not launch the Motorola Edge 60 Ultra this year. It skipped the phone entirely. The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is the last phone in the series that launched, and that was back in May 2024.
Motorola opted against Qualcomm’s best chip
Even though this phone technically won’t be using Qualcomm’s best chip out there, it will still be the most powerful non-folding phone the company has to offer. Based on what we know thus far, Motorola is not planning a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or MediaTek Dimensity 9500-powered slab phone.
The phone is expected to offer 16GB of RAM, and it already appeared on Geekbench. Well, its Chinese variant did, which will be called the Motorola Moto X70 Ultra, in case you were wondering.
The phone managed to score 2,636 points in the single-core, and 7,475 points in the multi-core test on Geekbench. That’s not bad at all. It’s not on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 level, but it’s really good.
We’re not sure when exactly will the phone launch
If Motorola aims to keep the same release cycle, the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra won’t launch until mid-2026. Still, the company could change that, nothing is set in stone at this point. It remains to be seen.
