If you asked us to guess the world’s fastest caravan tow, we’d probably imagine a Hennessey-tunedDurango doing the job and easily clearing 180 miles per hour, and we’d be way off. The record was actually set just shy of 142 mph, by a 2012 run at El Mirage Dry Lake in California in a GMC Sierra 2500HD. If you think about it, that checks out, doesn’t it? No matter how fast and powerful your towing vehicle might be, you’re still pulling an enormous piece of cargo in your wake, and even the sleekest travel trailers are anything but aerodynamic. Past a certain speed, your caravan is more likely to be shredded to pieces by wind resistance than it is to come along for the ride.
