After announcing a change in branding, Apple TV is back with another major upgrade, one that will please MLS fans. The company is now adding Major League Soccer games to the main Apple TV subscription at no extra cost. This means the games won’t be behind a separate paywall.
Apple TV subscribers get a free upgrade to MLS games
Before this announcement, MLS access required an additional MLS Season Pass. This costs $14.99 a month or $99 for the whole season (a little less if you were already paying for Apple TV). The announcement changes that from next year, and this also adds value to the subscription.
“We’re thrilled to bring MLS to more fans around the world next season on Apple TV. Every match, all in one place, alongside incredible Apple Originals – it’s a win for fans everywhere,” says Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services.
There’s also a free Apple TV subscription for some
The deal includes all MLS-related content, including every regular-season match, the Leagues Cup tournament, the MLS All-Star Game, the Campeones Cup, the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, and other matches. If you’ve signed for a full season ticket package with any MLS club to physically watch the game in person, then you’ll also get an Apple TV subscription as a part of the bundle, which is again a win.
Back in 2022, Apple and MLS announced a $2.5 billion deal, with broadcasts starting in 2023. The deal was for 10 years, which means there’s time until 2032. Besides this, Apple also signed a deal to broadcast Formula 1 races in the United States. Again, even this won’t cost anything for Apple TV subscribers. The Apple TV subscription currently costs $12.99 a month. Currently, there’s no ad-ridden package like most other streaming platforms out there.
