Android for PC, like any other PC operating system, has definite strengths and weaknesses, and Lenovo is breaking down what those are (from its perspective) so users are more informed about the use of Android as a PC platform. While the Android OS can already be used much like you would use a PC, it won’t be able to do everything. Lenovo, for its part, being a manufacturer of products for both the Android and Windows 11 operating systems, goes into detail about what you should expect from Android for PC and what you shouldn’t. While the platform does have weaknesses, it will still be able to do quite a few things for you. Especially if those things are lighter on system resources. The alleged arrival of these devices powered by Snapdragon chips should help things, too.
Android for PC weaknesses include limited desktop features
Android can certainly be a powerful computing tool, and this many years into its existence, it has grown a lot in terms of using it how you might use a more familiar PC operating system. With the right setup, such as a wireless keyboard and mouse, you can even navigate through its UI in much the same way. That being said, Lenovo lists a fairly comprehensive set of drawbacks. For example, the company says that Android for PC will have limited desktop features. Things like advanced file management aren’t going to be at your fingertips like they would on a Windows 11 PC. This could impact power users, Lenovo says.
Another drawback is the compatibility issues with certain apps. Lenovo states that “Not all apps are optimized for PC use, which can lead to compatibility issues or subpar performance. Users may need to experiment with different apps to find the best options for their needs.” Depending on what you want out of a PC that runs Android, however, it might be just what you’re looking for.
Some of the major strengths of the OS on a PC include Android’s highly customizable nature. At times, it feels almost limitless. So, this is great for people who love to give their own unique touch to their software’s look and feel. There’s also cloud integration, and Lenovo says Android for PC devices are highly energy efficient.
