It was in July this year that Google confirmed that it would be merging Chrome OS with Android. This could be because the long run of ChromeOS is nearing its end. This move should open doors for Android PCs. Android 16 brings several desktop features to the platform. A new leak now claims that Android PCs are on their way with Snapdragon X chips ticking at their core. This isn’t entirely surprising, considering Google and Qualcomm announced a joint project for Android PCs in September.
Snapdragon X chips could power Android PCs
Noted analyst @Jukanlosreve on X has shared a rumor that Qualcomm is testing Android 16 for its Snapdragon X series chips. This is a big deal because Snapdragon X, X Plus, and X Elite chipsets feature Arm64 architecture. The chips are mainly for thin and light laptops. The screenshot shows Qualcomm’s internal source code repository has been updated with Android 16 for “Purwa.” This is the codename for the Snapdragon X series.
The image also shows Android 16 manifests for various components such as computer vision, audio, BTFm (Bluetooth FM), camera subsystem, and others. The screenshot suggests that these edits are live for SC8380 (Snapdragon X series).

Full support for Gemini AI and Android’s AI stack
Furthermore, the leak hints that while Qualcomm could have begun working on the second-generation Snapdragon X chips, these changes haven’t been implemented for them. Having said this, the leak doesn’t guarantee that Snapdragon X or any other chips will be present in PCs that’ll run Android.
The biggest roadblock for this is that Android lacks a proper desktop environment. While we’ve seen references to Android’s desktop mode, Google has yet to bring a complete solution. However, Google’s recent promise to leverage Samsung’s experience in building DeX for a reliable desktop UI leaves some room for hope.
Google already announced its plans to bring complete Gemini AI, Android’s AI stack, and the entire app ecosystem to PCs. Qualcomm’s CEO Cristiano Amon calls the project “incredible,” adding that it finally delivers the vision of mobile-PC convergence. While there’s no explicit launch timeline for this, we may see some updates in 2026.
