Google Pixel 10 Pro XL vs Apple iPhone 17: Design
Both of these smartphones are made out of aluminum and glass. While there are several differences in the general shape of the two phones, they do look very different. First of all, the iPhone 17 is considerably smaller. It’s a lot shorter and narrower, while it’s also 0.5mm thinner than the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL. The iPhone 17 is also a lot lighter. It’s over 50 grams lighter in comparison, which is to be expected, as it has a lot smaller display.
Both smartphones do have flat displays and similar corner curvature. They also have thin and uniform bezels. The bezels are a bit thinner on the iPhone 17, though. The Pixel 10 Pro XL has a lot smaller display hole, however. It has a small circle at the top, while the Apple iPhone 17 includes a pill-shaped cutout, the so-called Dynamic Island. Both of them also have flat sides, all around, which curve slightly towards the edges.
Now, regarding the buttons. The Pixel 10 Pro XL has all of its buttons on the right-hand side. The power/lock button sits above the volume up and down keys. The iPhone 17 has more buttons. Its power/lock key sits on the right, along with the Camera control key. On the left, you’ll find the volume up and down keys, along with the Action key. They also have a Type-C port at the bottom, both phones.
If we flip them around, you’ll notice a lot different camera setups. The Pixel 10 Pro XL includes a horizontal camera bar, which contains three cameras on the inside. That camera bar does protrude on the back. The iPhone 17 includes two cameras on the back, which are vertically-aligned in the top-left corner. Those also protrude on the back. Both smartphones are quite slippery and IP68 certified.
Google Pixel 10 Pro XL vs Apple iPhone 17: Display
The Google Pixel 10 Pro XL features a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display. That display is flat, and it has an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz). HDR10+ content is also supported, and the peak brightness is 3,300 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 88%, while the display aspect ratio is 20:9. The resolution this display offers is 2992 x 1344 pixels. The display is protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

The Apple iPhone 17 features a 6.3-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display. That panel is also flat, and it offers an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz). HDR10 and Dolby Vision content is supported, while the peak brightness is 3,000 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 90%, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. The resolution is 2622 x 1206 pixels, while the Ceramic Shield 2 protects the display.
Both of these displays are actually excellent. They’re very different size-wise, but both of them are quite vivid and sharp. They also have great viewing angles, plus they’re more than bright enough. The touch response is very good, too. Both displays are well-protected as well. It’s worth noting that the iPhone 17 does offer better anti-reflective properties for its display, that’s for sure. It’s not a monumental difference, but it sure is noticeable.
Google Pixel 10 Pro XL vs Apple iPhone 17: Performance
The Google Pixel 10 Pro XL is fueled by the Google Tensor G5. That is a 3nm chip, and the first TSMC-made Tensor processor. That chip is backed by 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage. The iPhone 17 is fueled by the Apple A19, a 3nm chip from Apple. That processor is technically more powerful than the Tensor G5, and it’s backed by 8GB of RAM and NVMe flash storage. Neither phone supports storage expansion.
When it comes to day-to-day performance, both phones to a great job. They’re very smooth, very snappy. The difference in app opening and UI navigation is not really worth mentioning, they’re both great. Lag is not a part of the equation. Yes, you may notice a dropped frame here and there, but no lag. Considering the long software support promise, it could stay that way for quite some time.
What about gaming? Well, both of them do a great job in that department, but the iPhone 17 does have the edge. It has the more powerful processor, and it does offer more in the gaming department. However, the Pixel 10 Pro XL does do a bad job either, not at all. The iPhone 17 does stay a bit cooler, and it does better with truly demanding games.
Google Pixel 10 Pro XL vs Apple iPhone 17: Battery
The Google Pixel 10 Pro XL features a 5,200mAh battery. The iPhone 17, on the other hand, includes a 3,692mAh battery. Apple’s iPhones usually have smaller batteries than their Android counterparts, and the iPhone 17 is also noticeably smaller. Does the Pixel 10 Pro XL actually offer better battery life than the vanilla iPhone 17? No, it does not, actually. The iPhone 17 offers better battery life.
In fact, from what we’ve seen, the iPhone 17 offers several hours more of screen-on time. Don’t get us wrong, the Pixel 10 Pro XL doesn’t offer bad battery life, no at all, but the iPhone 17 is noticeably better. Apple did a great job when it comes to iPhone 17 series battery life, as did many other Android OEMs. Google’s phones do fine, but they definitely don’t break any records in that regard.
What about charging? The Pixel 10 Pro XL supports 45W wired, 25W Qi2 wireless, and reverse wired charging. The iPhone 17 supports 30W wired, 25W MagSafe wireless, and reverse wired charging. Neither smartphone charges at top speed at all times, and neither ships with a charger. In regards to reaching a 100% charge, they both take around an hour and 20+ minutes.
Google Pixel 10 Pro XL vs Apple iPhone 17: Cameras
The Google Pixel 10 Pro XL features three cameras on the back. It has a 50-megapixel main camera (1/1.31-inch sensor size), a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/2.55-inch sensor size), and a 48-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (1/2.55-inch sensor size, 5x optical size). The iPhone 17 has two cameras on the back, a 48-megapixel main camera (1/1.56-inch sensor size) and a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/2.55-inch sensor size, 120-degree FoV).

In all honesty, Google did not make a considerable move forward this year, in terms of camera quality. It’s not as consistent as it was in the last couple of years. The iPhone 17 can easily compete, and it does provide images that are closer to real life. You are still getting those contrasty photos from the Pixel 10 Pro XL. They do get a bit too dark at times, for whatever reasons, but for the most part, they’re quite good. Both phones do a good job in low light.
Both ultrawide cameras do a good job, but not to the level of the main shooters. When it comes to telephoto shots, the Pixel 10 Pro XL is the winner, easily. It’s the only one that offers a telephoto shooter, a periscope telephoto camera at that. For everything at 4x, 5x, and above, the Pixel 10 Pro XL is easily the better phone to get.
Audio
Both of these smartphones have stereo speakers. While both devices do offer good performance, the speakers on the Pixel 10 Pro XL are louder, and they sound a bit richer, too. Both phones do offer good output.
You will not find an audio jack on either of these two phones. You can hook up your wired headphones to their Type-C ports, if you want. Alternatively, both phones support Bluetooth 6.0 for wireless connectivity.
