OnePlus is aiming to up the ante when it comes to display resolution even more moving forward. According to a new report, the company is trying to find the right balance between high resolution and a 240Hz dynamic refresh rate.
OnePlus is allegedly planning to use a 240Hz display on its future flagship phones
Before we get more into that, let’s just say that the OnePlus 15 comes with a 165Hz display. Its predecessor, the OnePlus 13, includes a 120Hz display. Because of a jump to 165Hz, OnePlus was forced to push down the resolution a little bit. From a 2K resolution, the company pushed it down to a 1.5K resolution.
Now, this is nothing to get upset about, not at all. That’s still plenty for that display size, and quite frankly, basically nobody can tell the difference. That didn’t stop people from being very annoyed by it.
The question is, however, what resolution will OnePlus be forced to use if it pushes the refresh rate to 240Hz. The information comes from OnePlus Club, and users on X are not exactly happy about this.
Users are not exactly happy with the news
In the comments, users are wondering whether a 240Hz refresh rate is necessary at all, with comments like: “Honestly… do we really need 240Hz?”, “Nobody needs 240hz on a phone”, and “The wasted money on 244 should go to the cameras.”
It, of course, remains to be seen whether OnePlus will actually go through with it, but OnePlus Club does have a really good track record when it comes to OnePlus information. So, there’s no reason to doubt them at this point in time.
We’re not sure if this 240Hz display will be used in the OnePlus 16, or further down the road, but it seems to be coming. Who knows, OnePlus could even keep the same 1.5K resolution and push the refresh rate further up. It’s easily possible.
The OnePlus 15 has a gigantic 7,300mAh battery, while its predecessor used a 6,000mAh unit. That does open up various opportunities for OnePlus, and it’s not like the phone would be using such a high refresh rate at all times, not at all.
