In on the joke, Vice President Vance on Friday shared a photo of himself wearing a wig, resembling the viral online meme where he is depicted as bloated and smiling.
The photo, shared in a post on the vice president’s profile on X, is a close-up of Vance’s face, with curly brown locks around his head and his eyes widened.
He shared his full Halloween costume in a video on Instagram. Vance opens a door and says, “Happy Halloween. And remember to say thank you.”
The video ends with a purple filter over Vance as he spins in a circle, with the theme of “The Twilight Zone” playing in the background.
The meme sometimes referred to as “fat JD” appeared online following a contentious meeting between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in February, where Vance stepped in to ask Zelensky if he had “ever said ‘thank you’ once?”
Vance’s appearance in the meme shows his eyes widened, with brown curls down to his shoulders and his chin and cheeks enlarged. Since then, it usually pops up online as a means to poke fun at the vice president.
Ahead of Vance’s Halloween posts, conservative political commentator Benny Johnson on Thursday shared a video on Facebook hinting at what the costume could be.
“Yesterday I asked JD Vance point blank what his Halloween costume was going to be because I’ve seen the speculation online and, well, we all want this to happen,” Johnson said, right as a clipped-in photo of the meme appears.
“And JD Vance told me this,” Johnson continued. “‘Stay tuned. The internet is going to love this. The internet is going to love this.’ Ladies and gentlemen, your first meme lord vice president. Get ready.”
