President Trump on Thursday evening placed a candy bar on a young trick-or-treater’s head during a Halloween event on the White House’s South Lawn, repeating a viral moment from his first administration.
In 2019, the president placed Hershey’s chocolate bar on a kid’s head who was dressed as a character from the “Minions” movie. This year, he did the same to a child depicting the artist DJ Marshmello.
“@POTUS strikes again!” the White House Rapid Response team wrote in a post on social platform X.
The president and first lady Melania Trump spent the evening passing out candy to invited guests that ranged from foster and adoptive families to members of the military, law enforcement and administration officials.
Those in attendance included White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, whose one-year old son dressed up as a pumpkin, and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller. Miller’s wife wore a skeleton costume.
Children received full-size Hershey’s chocolate bars and Twizzlers in festive Halloween boxes featuring the Presidential Seal and signatures of the president and first lady, per the White House.
Pumpkin decorations that lined the South Portico were provided by Frey Farms and will later be donated to D.C. Central Kitchen — a nonprofit seeking to fight hunger in the nation’s capital. The company has sponsored the White House Halloween event for the past 13 administrations, according to the first lady’s office.
“Frey Farms is proud to continue working with the White House to celebrate America’s harvest and the farmers who make it possible,” CEO Sarah Frey said in a statement.
“Our pumpkins represent the strength of American agriculture and the importance of healthy, homegrown food,” she added. “We are honored to support this tradition and to contribute to local food assistance through DC Central Kitchen.”
