 
        President Trump said he would cut tariffs on China and praised his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, calling it “truly great” in a social media post.
He told reporters on Air Force One that the U.S. would decrease tariffs levied on China because of fentanyl by 10 points. Trump added that he would visit the Asian country next spring and that “on the scale from zero to 10, with 10 being the best, I would say the meeting was a 12.”
The president also noted that Xi agreed to buy “massive amounts” of soybeans and other agriculture products.
On Capitol Hill, the Senate will convene as the government shutdown hits Day 30, but it does not have a vote scheduled to reopen the government. The Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is top of mind for millions of Americans, with benefits set to run out Saturday. It’s not the only way the lapse in funding could get worse, though.
Both parties are looking for ways to end the shutdown as early as next week, but the path forward remains uncertain.
Trump is on his way back to Washington, where he, along with first lady Melania Trump, will host a White House Halloween celebration Thursday evening.
