Voice assistants are becoming smarter, all thanks to the increasing adoption of AI. Google had recently replaced the default voice assistant of Android from Google Assistant to an AI-powered Gemini. These assistants are good, but they often stop listening when you pause, making long conversations frustrating. To address this, Google is testing a new update to its Gemini that lets users talk more freely with it without waiting.
Google Gemini’s new update says goodbye to wait time
In the new Google app update (version 16.42.61), holding the mic icon keeps it active until the stop button is manually hit. The mic icon changes to a stop button, which signals to the user that a conversation is going on. This gives users the freedom to pause and continue without losing any part of their message.
It is similar to voice note functions in messaging apps, which makes it easier to explain complex questions or share detailed instructions in one go. Users will no longer have to rush their words or miss out on important information. The new feature makes the whole conversational experience feel more “natural.”
A few more changes are under testing
Aside from the new seamless conversation feature, Google is testing certain design changes to make Gemini more convenient. As reported by the source, the prompt box, or the text input box, now expands when typing, giving more space for longer messages. This change makes reading and editing easier without needing to change screens or their orientation.
Further, Gemini overlays will now have a floating button that can be moved to different positions on the screen. This option gives users the flexibility to expand and minimize the assistant when needed. However, do keep in mind that the aforementioned features are still under testing. And it’s not guaranteed that the stable version will have them.
