Deja vu for Apple come 2027. The company is reportedly looking to skip out on the iPhone 19 and jump straight to the iPhone 20. This would be the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, hence the skipping of 19.
Apple did this ten years ago with the iPhone X where it skipped the iPhone 9 and launched the iPhone 8 with the iPhone X to celebrate ten years of iPhone.
Apple is also reportedly set to debut a major redesign with the iPhone 20, despite having a somewhat major one this year with the iPhone 17. In fact, this year’s Liquid Glass redesign is said to be part of the redesign for the iPhone 20, even though that is still a couple of years away.
Apple could also skip the base iPhone 18 next year
With the introduction of the Air this year, and reportedly the Fold next year, Apple is rumored to be moving around its launch schedule, starting with the iPhone 18. This would include launching the Air, Pro, and Fold models in the fall as usual. There would be no vanilla iPhone 18, however.
With the base iPhone 20 launching in early 2027, and the rest of the iPhone 20 lineup coming later that year.
This is actually a pretty smart move for Apple to make, especially with the addition of the iPhone Fold next year. Instead of releasing five phones in the fall, spread them out a bit, like Samsung and Google do with the Galaxy S25 and Pixel 10 series. Launching the base iPhone in the Spring is a much better idea than just launching the iPhone 17e which isn’t a great option and likely doesn’t sell well.
Of course, this is all rumors out of Korea, so things could change, especially since we’re talking about phones that are lamost two years away at this point.
